CoffeePot Drive – ‘Hey Suzy’ Single Review

new jacket-15

Coffee Pot Drive has returned with an electric new single, taken off their equally amazing debut album. The band combine gritty funk with soft soul to create an amazing cacophony of sounds and textures. ‘Hey Suzy’ manages to appear slick and refined whilst also displaying a sense of groove and funkiness, not often found in bands these days.

The recognisable guitar riff comes in solidly with staccato harmonica laying an undertone from which the vocals can propel into the mix. The layering of the vocals with falcetto backing vocals gives the track a gospel feel. The track sounds like Aretha Franklin decided to pop a few Quaaludes, pick up a guitar and start to jam.

The rest of the instruments in the mix are really tightly constructed. The drums and bass seem to complement each other really well whilst the guitar plays a combination of jazzy melodies and powerful chords.

This whole piece is an absolute delight and a perfect introduction to the album.

‘Hey Suzy!’ will be available from August 17th followed by album “Edge of Town” out on August 31st.
