Flaming June’s new EP, released April 15th:

Rumpelstiltskin & The Perils And Promises of Womanhood

Fairytale Folk from the heart of Cambridgeshire

Winner of esteemed folk/roots publication FATEA magazine’s best EP of 2011 with ‘Nerves of Steel’, Flaming June return this month with new EP ‘Rumpelstiltskin & The Perils and Promises of Womanhood’.

Built around the fragile and distinct vocal of songwriter Louise Hamilton, this 5 track EP demonstrates a genuine knack for strong lyrics, effective acoustic chord patterns and memorable melodies.  And, like many releases of notable quality, this EP springs not only from a love of the music but a passion for a larger issue.

Most of the tracks on the EP, including the title song, relate to Louise’s long running dedication to raising awareness of domestic abuse. The lyrics relate to the struggles of victims and survivors, and pay tribute to those who have been able to free themselves from awful situations.

But those expecting a downbeat collection should think again – though the tone is undoubtedly serious, the lyrics celebrate the strengths and victories of their female protagonists. Ultimately, this EP is a triumph on many levels, and Flaming June invite you to enjoy it with them.
