Ailbhe Reddy today releases new single, ‘A Mess’. It follows April’s ‘Inhaling’ – a hypnotic and disarming song that longed for the freedom of youth – which marked a comeback for Ailbhe, who’s 2020 debut album Personal History was shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize album of the year award. Since then, she has moved to London, last month made her debut at The Great Escape, and will be appearing at both Visions Festival and Latitude this summer, with more live announcements due over the coming weeks.

With the arrival of ‘A Mess’, Ailbhe again looks for freedom, but this time – atop a swell of fuzzed-up indie-rock and a chorus of joyous hollers – it’s an escape from the trappings of cyclical bad habits that she seeks.

Ailbhe Reddy says: “‘A Mess’ is about not feeling good enough in a relationship and examining old patterns and habits. It’s about feeling fed up of going around in circles, while focusing on a throw away comment that ‘no wonder it was such a mess’.”

The single is accompanied by a video made by renowned Irish production company, CLTV, who have been responsible for videos by the likes of Fontaines D.C., Denise Chaila, Pillow Queens, Inhaler and more.

“The video was directed by Georgia Kelly of CLTV,” says Ailbhe. “I wanted to keep the playfulness of the music alive in the video and make sure it was tongue and cheek rather than very serious. Georgia came up with a few scenarios that were funny representations of feeling ‘not good enough’ and giving up.”
