A whole lot of men are in a really sorry state these days, huh? Look around you for a moment, and you’re likely to see that you’re surrounded by hordes of guys in their 20s who are stuck in dead-end jobs they absolutely hate, have no useful skills, no interesting hobbies, and spend all their free time obsessing over hair products and Internet memes.

It gets even worse than that. It’s become a meme in its own right for people to talk about “adulting”, like it was some kind of major and ironic life achievement to learn how to change the oil in a car, or book a dentists’ appointment over the phone.

Look, anyone can end up in a bad situation and wake up one day to realise that they’re not where they want to be in their life. There’s no shame in realising that you’re not the kind of person you want to be, and then taking steps to fix that. The only shame is in allowing yourself to stay in your rut without even trying to climb out.

If you’re a guy in your 20s and you’re drifting aimlessly, here are a few things you should do in order to man up.

Get a car

Look for Vauxhall new car offers, or get an Opel Corsa, whatever. Just get a car.

All right, so maybe you live in the city, and you think you don’t need a car. There are trains, buses, and all that good stuff. Maybe you’ve got pals who don’t mind giving you lifts.

Ask yourself this – do you seriously want to be that guy who always relies on other people to get around? Even if that other person is a bus driver, uterus you’re just in a much better place in life if you can get by under your own steam instead.

Begging for lifts and depending other people isn’t a good look. Get a car instead, and then learn how to change the oil.

Study a martial art

Almost all guys believe that if things kicked off, they’d be able to fight like action movie heroes to defend themselves, their friends, and their family. Obviously, this isn’t true.

If you actually care about being able to defend yourself and your loved ones – and seriously, who doesn’t? – You’ve got to study martial arts. No way around it.

You don’t have to become a competitive fighter, and you don’t have to go to class seven days a week. but if you want to man up, you better get training in something– even if it messes up your hair.

Master time management, and get serious about your career – stop spending all your time watching porn

Think about the kind of men you respect. The list is almost certainly made up of guys who handle their business, know how to work, and achieve some seriously impressive stuff as a result.

Almost certainly, you’re not so impressed by the guys who spend all their free time eating Dominos and watching porn.

A large part of being a man, instead of a boy, is developing your time management skills and getting serious about your career. Not just your career, either. Spend your free time doing stuff that makes you better. Don’t spend all your time killing time, because you don’t have as much time as you think.
