Get Ahead

It will help you enormously if you know the basics before you even start. If there’s someone’s car you can go in with them, ask them to show you the basics of a car and the important things you need to know. You can also start learning for your theory test as early as possible too as this will really help you on the road and to pass your theory test.

Book A Lot Of Lessons

There is no minimum number of lessons that you need to have before you can go for your test, and there is no time frame in which you need to do it in either. But it’s a good idea to book a number of lessons in one go so that you have a goal and don’t just do them sporadically and lose momentum. You could either opt for an intensive driving course if you can afford it or if you do decide to spread out your lessons, then book at least one or two lessons per week for weeks in advance so that you remember more going into each lesson, and you won’t have to worry about if your instructor is available. Some instructors may also offer a discount for block booking too. As well as booking lessons, if you have a goal in mind for when you want to pass then have a look for Find me a driving test, driving test cancellations to see if you can get one sooner than normal.

Shop Around For A Good Instructor

Your instructor can be the difference between you passing your test quickly or taking forever. Don’t go with the first instructor you find, try ringing around driving schools and local approved driving instructors and ask them about their prices, qualifications, experience and track record. If you know anyone who has recently passed their test then ask for recommendations from people as word of mouth and other reviews are usually reliable. However, if you don’t like who you’ve picked, don’t be afraid to change.

Get A Car To Practise In

If there’s a car you have access to then, it’s a really good idea to get some practice in between lessons as this can help you to pass your driving test quicker. However, it’s not just a car you need but someone who is over 21 and has had a full driving licence for at least three years to accompany you while you drive. You could buy yourself a used car now as well, as long as you have someone to practise with but then at least when you do pass; you have a car to get going in straight away.

Don’t Give Up

Don’t beat yourself up if you fail your test, even if you fail it more than once. It happens to many people, but don’t give up, listen to your feedback so that you don’t make the same mistakes again. Book your next test straight away too so you can do it as soon as possible.
